The Web has been changing our lives for over 10 years. What is next? How will social networks impact government? How will Web 2.0 change government service delivery? Join the Center for Digital Government in an interesting and entertaining session on something we are calling "You.Gov."
Network Security
Meeting Room 406
IT Security is one of the most important subjects for technology departments. Many departments have built their security systems over a long period of time and have not been able to architect a solution that is flexible enough to respond to today's ever changing threat landscape. Given the current trend to share data and implement shared services, network security becomes all the more important. This session will illustrate how a well designed architecture will provide for confidentiality, integrity, availability, compliance and dynamic asset utility, all critical components for ensuring continuous business operations and mitigating risk.
Speaker: Patricia Titus, Director, Enterprise Security Strategies, Unisys
Enterprise Service Oriented Architecture
Meeting Room 410
Enterprise Service Oriented Architecture (ESOA) has been promoted as the next evolutionary step to help IT organizations meet an increasingly complex set of challenges. The idea is to make it easier for organizations to craft reusable transaction and collaboration processes by using business process management and Web services capabilities. This session will showcase how service orchestration (and re-orchestration) can provide responsive, cost-effective solutions over time and how ESOA allows agility among program managers, technical managers, and line staff. It will address how legacy systems can be leveraged, and how new services can meet parochial needs while still participating in a greater enterprise or perhaps in global interoperability.
Speakers: Robert Ellinger, Lead Enterprise Architect, Northrop Grumman
Will Greer, Vice President, Public Services, SAP
Going Green with Information and Communications Technology
Meeting Room 412
This session will offer strategic, tactical and practical business approaches to efficient information and communications technology. Examining sustainable and "green" ICT, the discussion will address a backlash from IT users who are confused, skeptical and often weary of vendors pushing their greenness without clear substantiation.
The central ideas are, first, that an efficient data center is green. The second is that there is no magic bullet, no single thing but rather a comprehensive view and a collection of actions that are needed. And the third is that sustainability must be central to any viable and ICT strategy. This means sustainable in the corporate and environmental sense as well as in an IT / business sense.

Privacy in eGovernment
Meeting Room 406
In the digital age, traditional concepts of privacy and confidentiality are fast becoming obsolete. The issues are further complicated by the demands of homeland security and legislation such as the Open Public Records Act versus HIPAA and similar initiatives. This session discusses current thoughts and trends involved in finding a safe and acceptable balance between security, privacy and the public's right to know.
Speakers: Rachael Biggs, Communications Manager, Texas Department of Information Resources
Dr. James Kennedy, Principal Consultant, Alcatel-Lucent
Electronic Records Management Case Studies
Meeting Room 410
The advent of the digital age gave rise to the hope that governments could one day operate without paper. As costs and benefits become more understood, the "paper culture" is shifting toward electronic records. Great strides have been made in intelligent documents and sharing data, making it easier than ever to integrate processes and content. This session will provide you with examples of successful projects and technologies that are changing the way that governments operate.
Speaker: Gary Rodgers, WW Public Sector & Education Market Development, Image and Printing Group, Hewlett-Packard Company
Nita R. Brinkman, Esq., General CounselThe Common Source, L.P.
What Software as a Service REALLY Means to You
Meeting Room 412
Governments wishing to streamline their IT portfolios and simplify support are increasingly looking to application service provider (ASP) or Software as a Service (SaaS) options. Wikipedia defines SaaS as "a software application delivery model where a software vendor develops a web-native software application and hosts and operates ... the application." But what is SaaS really, and what should you consider as you evaluate this option? This presentation will provide you with an overview of SaaS and how it applies to software solutions you see today. More importantly, you will learn how the software industry views SaaS, how to strategically think about SaaS, and receive tips on how to strategically engage with SaaS vendors.
Speaker: Michael Lock, Director of North American Sales, Google Enterprise
